I was introduced to potato guns as a child, by my faux-redneck Tennessee relations. These same scalawags intended to show up at my father’s wedding to a Yankee in overalls and barefoot. Thankfully, they didn’t, and my parents’ marriage survived to produce me.

Potatoes are my go-to object to throw randomly into a conversation when things need livening up. Not literally, of course. Although I am sure that would make for some interesting times.

Anybody watch that episode on penguins? It moved me, truly it did. The way those male penguins covered the eggs for months while the females went to get food – remarkable.
